Summer Movie Review: Magic Mike

  This past weekend I also saw Magic Mike. Magic Mike is the story of a male stripper named Mike, or at the strip club, Magic Mike (Channing Tatum). Mike is happy stripping, or so he thought. The club he dances at is run by a man named Dallas (Matthew McConaughey). Mike manages to get a 19-year old Adam (Alex Pettyfer) off of his sister's couch by getting him a job at the club. Things start to go downhill for Mike at this club though. Adam makes a deal with the house's DJ, who moonlights as a drug dealer, to give ecstasy to the different girls he meets. This gets Adam in a lot of trouble because he loses the pills and ends up owing the DJ ten thousand dollars. Mike, being the man he is, gives the DJ the ten thousand dollars he had been saving up to start a business, because he knows Adam doesn't have the money. Throughout this, Mike ends up falling for Adam's sister, Brooke (Cody Horn). After getting screwed out of a deal he had made with Dallas to make 10% equity off of the new male strip club they were opening in Miami, Mike quits his job as a male stripper, and stays in Tampa. He and Brooke end up going out by the end of the movie.

    Magic Mike was a good movie. My friend said she didin't like it that much, but I thought the story line was good and Channing Tatum's dancing was extremely impressive. The movie was funny and a little bit cheesy, but I can overlook that. I would give Magic Mike a nine out of ten stars. I woud Channing Tatum a ten out of ten stars though. I should also mention some of the acting in this movie isn't as great I thought it would be (ahem, Cody Horn). However, I think this movie is rather good and I would definitely go see it again. Magic Mike is now in theatres.
